Not since the first novels about the mutiny on the Bounty has a high seas drama of adventure, politics and treachery, captured the senses as Hell Ship. In January 1918 a US supply vessel, the USS Cyclops, set sail with an angry crew and a bitter captain. Forty of the men had just brought accusations against him for drunkenness and abuse. Every league she sailed tensions increased. The captain had the Exec. arrested. He treated the men like dogs and began walking the bridge at night in his longjohns and a derby hat. By the time the vessel made an unscheduled stop at Barbados, she was a hell ship. After the great ship left, she vanished, leaving in her wake rumors of mutiny and an illegal execution at sea.

An uncle of mine was one of the passengers lost when the Cyclops went missing. I had hoped I might learn something new and factual from this book. I didn't, and ended tossing it before I was half done. It is supposedly fact based, but the imagined story and dialogue is breathless and over-written.Product details

Hell Ship The Last Voyage of the USS Cyclops Gian Quasar 9781257322138 Books Reviews
From the pages available on the website for preview it is apparent to me that "Hell Ship..." seeks to blend a few facts with an abundance of fiction. The dialog, which the author purports as authentic in his published piece can only be a fabrication.
If the reader seeks a shallow version of the Cyclops' history, then "Hell Ship" will serve them quite well. My remarks are based on extensive research of this subject. Something better is surely available.
I am not sure what i can say about this book but "Fantastic !!" If you are a newbie or an old timer to the Bermuda Triangle, you will find this the best book written on the USS Cyclops. While no one knows the true fate of the ship, the author weaves in little known facts into the story so that it reads like a historical novel, but with a twist ! If you love a true mystery, the story of the vanishing of the Cyclops has everything you need.A tyrannical captain, a beloved 1st officer thrown in the brig,a crew on the verge of mutiny as some have nothing to lose.... This is a true story and should have been made into a movie years ago ! Do yourself a favor and order this book !!
Who else but Gian Quasar could take on this subject and give it the light of day? I'm not sure anyone else out there has that capability. As one of, if not thee, pre-eminent authority on all things Bermuda Triangle, Gian Quasar, I'm sure will not rest until every last bit and peripheral crannies of this subject is exposed, and exposing it he does in high fashion. After reading, his previous efforts, "Into the Bermuda Triangle" and "They Flew Into Oblivion (re Flight 19), I was sure that this effort would measure up and it does. Not, reader, in the same vein, but in a very well done fashion. Historical novel or a novel historical tome, either epithet fits. I won't attempt to dissect this book and will leave it to the reader to define. If you are not aware prior to reading this book, of where the U.S.S. Cyclops fits into the lore, you're in for a great surprise. If you are aware, you're in for an eye opening treat. The Cyclops mystery has only been mentioned or touched on in every Bermuda Triangle book I've ever read, and that would be most, if not all of them. After all these years, Gian Quasar finally completes the story and gives those of us who have wondered about this event, a sense of closure, another chapter in the Triangle lore defined. I highly recommend this author, and anxiously await his next effort, taking on Saucy Jack The Ripper.
As a distant cousin to one of the sailors aboard the USS Cyclops when it disappeared in 1918, I have always been interested in the history of this ship. This book has given me insight on the ship and crew, which have never been found. I have read many other stories on the Cyclops, but Quasar seems to have documented his work best. It seems to have really been a "Hell Ship".
An uncle of mine was one of the passengers lost when the Cyclops went missing. I had hoped I might learn something new and factual from this book. I didn't, and ended tossing it before I was half done. It is supposedly fact based, but the imagined story and dialogue is breathless and over-written.
