Cole Ballinger is an interesting character. This story sort of falls between the Jake Stellar and Dan Coast stories in tone. More along the lines of the Dunquin Cove books actually. Cole is a retired cop in Florida who owns a bar and is dealing with a host of domestic issues. A well written story, interesting characters and situations. Hopefully there will be more to the story, after another Dan Coast of course?

As good as the Coast series maybe better! I only hope Cole comes back with Kelly and Allison. Very good reading.
Main character is pretty unattractive. An ex-cop who during the course of the book becomes physically violent with multiple persons and ends the book by committing premeditated murder. Deeply angry at his cheating ex-spouse and at anyone who appears to have more money than he has. Talks about the snobbery of the wealthy but the descriptions of the people and their possessions make his anger and envy rather pathetic as his targets are more middle class than wealthy. Or perhaps that's how the author justifies the his violence. Only redeeming feature is that he is a good father. He is lucky enough to have good relationships with his children and owns a bar on the beach in Florida. Paradise for anyone else but he's mostly just another angry white man.
I can usually remember every part of a book even if I have read it years ago. I can't remember what this book was about, so it didn't leave a good impression.

Sunrise City is another entertaining book from Rodney Riesel. Just like his other protagonists, Cole is a likeable, regular guy - the type that you'd want to hang out with. Looking forward to reading more of him.
